Smack It Competition at LHS
Submitted by Pattie Myers, Livingston High School

Livingston High School - Brandi Greene, a U.S. History teacher at LHS, has been creating exciting innovative activities all year to not only teach her subject with but to also prepare her students for the upcoming Exit Social Studies TAKS Test.  She is the unofficial “Smack-It” queen on campus; she uses Smack-It, a review game where her class is divided into two groups and given a fly swatter in order to be the first person on the team to smack the correct answer to a question on the board, to review students weekly for quizzes and standardized testing.  Recently, she organized and conducted the first ever World Champion Smack-It Contest, a wonderful TAKS Review, in which each class period send their winning team to compete.

Team members wore customized T-Shirts that they made for the after school competition.  The reining World Champions are The MurrrHurrrs from Ms. Greene’s 7th period.  Thanks to LHS PTO, a huge trophy was purchased that will be inscribed each year with names of the winning team.  Famous games such as Jeopardy, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Battleship, and Memory have been incorporated into history review lessons on the computer.  Her latest find has been the purchase of “American Football History” in which when history questions are answered correctly, students view a football team advancing towards a touchdown.  Ms. Greene fully expects all of her students to “score” on next week’s Exit TAKS Test.
