UIL Academic District Champs!
Submitted by Deana Evans, Livingston High School

Livingston High School - The LHS Academic Team returned victoriously from Huntsville HS on Saturday, March 29th as the District 18 4A Sweepstakes Champion!  LHS had a total of 325 points edging out the competition with an overall TEAM effort.  In UIL, the District Championship is figured by adding up points won for each individual and team placing.  To the points won by the normal academic events, the district championship adds the points from earlier competitions in CX Debate and One-Act Play making it a true SCHOOL VICTORY.  For the past two years, LHS has been the runner-up at the District Meet but this year, (the final year in District 18 4A), LHS came away the winner.  Final school totals were:

Now is the time for LHS students to sign up for AP tests!
Submitted by Deana Evans, Livingston High School

Livingston High School - Students that have taken Advanced Placement classes at Livingston High School this year are strongly encouraged to take the upcoming AP Exams in hopes of earning college credit in those classes.  LISD and the Texas Education Agency have joined together to pay a large part of the original $84 cost of the exams, leaving the student with only a $27 per exam fee or $6 per exam fee for students that qualify for free or reduced lunch

Tuesday, April 8th is the deadline to turn in the “Intent to Test” form to Mrs. Deana Evans, AP Coordinator at LHS.  At least one half of the test fee is due on or before April 8 (along with the form signed by the parent or guardian).

Presidential Art Contest
Submitted by Paula Franklin, Livingston Intermediate School

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum sponsored the “2008 Art Contest:  Framing Issues from Historic Places.”  Livingston Intermediate School students along with the 3rd grade GT students from Timber Creek and Pine Ridge Elementary entered artwork for the contest.  The artwork featured specific details about historic sites or buildings in the United States of America.

The artwork had to reveal observations concerning the place’s importance historically and what was suggested about past events there.   Students could have also depicted the significant issues contributing to the historical impact of the featured place while it was happening.  This theme provided a range of exciting opportunities to highlight historic places with the potential of bring history to life.  Twelve students were chosen to represent LISD in the contest.  Four 1st place winners will be named for grades 3 through 5.  These students will receive a $75 gift certificate for art supplies from Hobby Lobby.
