Cowboys Visit TCE First Grade
Submitted by Kristy Long and Adrianne Murphy, Timber Creek Elementary

Timber Creek Elementary - Mr. Clarke Evans and Mr. Gary Don Murphy visited the TCE first graders to end our Rodeo Round-up week.  They talked to us about the history of cowboys and what cowboys do today.  They brought saddles, whips, bridles, cow horns, brands, and ropes for all of us to see. Mr. Evans dressed in real cowboy attire complete with chaps and spurs.  Mr. Murphy showed us how to rope cows.  Unfortunately, due to the weather, they were not able to bring their horses.  We had great time learning about real cowboys!  Thanks to Mr. Evans and Mr. Murphy we have some future cowboys and cowgirls in the making!!

Physical Fitness Announcement in Lion Country
Submitted by Coach Pennee Hall, LISD Athletics

Livingston High School - In compliance with Senate Bill 530, all grades 3-12 students in Texas must take the FITNESSGRAM fitness assessment. This is the first year that all Texas school districts must meet this requirement. The assessment is not based on athletic ability but on good health. The assessment will include measurements of aerobic capacity, strength, endurance, flexibility and body composition. This is not a pass or fail test. FITNESSGRAM is a tool to help determine needs and serve as a guide for planning a personalized physical activity program.

The test will not affect grades in any way. The information gathered will be sent to the Texas Education Agency, which will release a report with District and campus results. No individual scores will be made public, but scores will be available to parents who file a written request. Livingston Independent School District believes that providing health-related fitness information will lead toward a healthier lifestyle. A healthy student is better prepared to learn and perform, in all aspects of life. Contact the physical education teacher on your campus, or go to http://www.fitnessgram.net/texas for more information.
