New Teacher Academy Launches

Livingston ISD - New teachers are always a part of a new school year, and this year Livingston ISD is welcoming all of our new teachers with the New Teacher Academy which began on Wednesday, August 13. During the first day of activites, teachers worked with their mentors who will be following their progress throughout the year and heard from several guest speakers. The event will continue throughout the week and many more activities and events are planned.

JROTC Summer Camp Underway

Livingston - The Livingston High School JROTC program is preparing for their second year and hoping to recreate the excitement and success. On Tuesday, August 13, 2008, members of this year's program worked on skills at their annual Summer training camp.

High School Orientation Underway

Livingston -  Livingston High School began their orientation process with Seniors and Juniors reporting today.  Students were able to pick up their schedules as well as get pictures taken for student ID cards and much more.  Freshman and sophomore students will be reporting on Thursday for the orientation process.

LISD New Student Registration
Begins August 13 & 14 - 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Where to register:
Pre-K through 3rd - LISD Communications Building, 311 W. Milam
4th through 12th will register at their campus. (4-5 Intermediate, 6-8 Junior High, 9-12 High School)

The guidelines to qualify for Pre-Kindergarten programs are that the student must be four (4) on or before September 1, 2008 and be one of the following:

1. Eligible for Free or Reduced price lunch program
2. Non-English Speaking
3. The student is the child of an active duty, injured, killed or MIA member of the armed forces of the United States. Including the state military forces or a reserved component of the armed forces.
4. A child who is or has been in the conservatorship of the Departmenf of Family and Protective Services (CPS) following an advisory hearing relating to the child’s removal from the custody of a parent, custodian, guardian, or other caretaker.

What To Bring:
• Birth Certificate
• Updated Shot Record
• Proof of Residency
(utility bill with name and 911 address)
• Drivers License
• Social Security Card
• Report Card (if applicable)
• Proof of Income (if applicable)
• Foster or CPS Documents (if applicable)
• Military Documentation (if applicable)

All teachers who are new to Livingston ISD will meet at 9:00 a.m. at Pine Ridge Elementary for benefits enrollment and to sign contracts, provided all documents have been submitted to the LISD Human Resources Department.

Wednesday, August 13 and Thursday, August 14
Teachers who are new to Livingston ISD with 0-2 years of experience in the teaching profession will have the opportunity to attend the
2008 New Teacher Academy: Coloring a Bright Road to Success, in the Livingston Junior High School Black Box Theater from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday, August 15, 2008
All teachers who are new to Livingston ISD will report to the Livingston Junior High School Black Box Theater at 8 a.m.  Teachers will meet key staff members who will support your efforts in the classroom.  Following a luncheon with your campus principal and assigned mentor, you will report to your home campus for the remainder of your day.

All Livingston ISD faculty and staff will report at 8 a.m. to the Livingston High School Cafeteria to begin the week with a district-wide breakfast and assembly (in the auditorium) with Dr. Darrell Myers, Superintendent of Schools and the Livingston ISD Administrative Team.

Livingston –  Students in Livingston ISD will have new start and end times on each of the five campuses as the new school year begins.  Please note the following changes:

Pine Ridge Elementary             
7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Timber Creek Elementary            
7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Livingston Intermediate School          
7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Livingston Junior High School                    
8:00 a.m.  to 3:40 p.m.

Livingston High School
7:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Cafeteria prices in Livingston ISD have also changed for the 2008/2009 school year. Please note the following changes:

Anyone interested in meeting the teachers, administrators, counselors, touring the building, and generally getting a good start to the 2008-2009 school year should plan to attend.  The new principal Ms. Shaw will give a brief overview of expectations for the year and introduce the Assistant Principals and Counselors.  Parents and students will then be able to meet and visit with teachers in their rooms.  The PTO will provide refreshments and have t-shirts and membership forms available.

2009 Senior Portraits Scheduled

2009 Senior portraits have been scheduled for Monday – Wednesday, August 11 – 13 in the Livingston High School auditorium. Students should receive a card in the mail from Photo Texas, the official school photography company, with a time and date to report for their portraits.

All seniors who wish to have their portraits included in the 2009 Lion’s Roar yearbook must have their drape or tux portrait made by Photo Texas. Those students who only want yearbook portraits will not be charged a sitting fee. Photo Texas will also offer opportunities to take cap & gown and casual shots for a minimal fee. Students may bring letter jackets, sporting equipment, pets, FFA jackets, JROTC uniforms, etc. to include in their casual shots.

Proofs will be mailed to all students who take portraits for ordering if desired. Those who do not come in during this time will have an opportunity to take their portraits on January 22.

2008 Yearbook Distribution Dates Set

The 2008 yearbooks will be distributed on the following dates and times only:

Thursday, August 7 from 8 am – 4 pm

Wednesday, August 13 from 8 am - 11 am and 1 pm – 4 pm

Thursday, August 14 from 8 am - 11 am and 1 pm – 4 pm

*Once school begins books will only be distributed after school from 3:30 – 4:00.

Students or their parents may pick up books in the journalism room #S-102. Receipts and picture IDs must be presented to ensure proper delivery is made.

Students or adults wishing to pick up books for graduates or other students who have moved must have proof of identification, a receipt and a signed letter requesting their book be delivered to someone other than themselves.

A few extra books were ordered and will be sold for $100, cash only, on a first-come, first-served basis.
