Max Found Two Sticks
Submitted by Destiny Kennedy, Pine Ridge Elementary
Pine Ridge Elementary
-  After reading "Max Found Two Sticks," Second and Third grade Music students used their imagination and creativity to produce their own music. In the story, Max has two twigs fall to his feet while he is sitting on the porch. He uses a wash bucket, soda bottle, hat box and trash lids to create different rhythm patterns as people pass by. With the help of our Cafeteria ladies, the kids were able to use buckets, spoons and bottles to create their own rhythm patterns and ostinatos in class.

State Debate in 2008
Submitted by: Scott Morgan / Martha Baker, Livingston High School

- On March 29, 2008 at Huntsville High School, the District UIL Academic Meet will be held, to include Lincoln Douglas Debate.  Lincoln Douglas Debate, or LD, uses a format where individual competitors debate the resolution that "sanctuary cities are morally justified".  At district tournament, two Lions hope to join their teammates, Saher Hyderali and Nathan Edwards, as state qualifiers.  Brady Cullen and Sheldon Barnes have worked extremely hard this season preparing for this final showdown.  Their coaches are extremely proud and know that they will represent LHS with Lion Pride.

Helping Africa Debate Carries Lions on to State

- The Livingston High School Debate Team entered the District tournament for Cross-Examination Debate this past Saturday at Waller High School.  Cross Examination Debate, or CX, consists of two member teams debating a broad topic impacting our lives today.  This year, the teams debated the resolution that "the United States Government should substantially increase public health assistance to Sub-Saharan Africa".  The sole entry from Livingston, Nathan Edwards and Saher Hyderali, managed to advance farther in this tournament than ever before.  In fact, they performed so well that they qualified as State Alternates in just their first season as a team.  Congratulations and enjoy your success.    Good luck and again, Congratulations.

Henderson (game 10, record 2-8-0 district 1-5-0)
Tuesday Feb 5th, the Livingston Lions boys’ soccer team hosted Henderson High School. Though the Lions suffered another tough loss, 9-2, this game brought hope for the remainder of the season. Freshman Kevin McDaniel played a stellar second-half as goalkeeper, his first appearance at the position and the fifth Lion to play the position this year.

Diboll (game 11, record 3-8-0 district 2-5-0)
Friday Feb 8th, the Livingston Lions boys’ soccer team hosted the Diboll Lumberjacks. In the first half, the Lions dominated possession and out-shot the visiting Lumberjacks. However, the Lions were unable to take advantage, scoring first before falling behind 3-1. The Lions were able to close the gap to 3-2 at the half. The second half was a different story. Again, Kevin McDaniel played the second half at keeper and didn’t allow a goal the rest of the way. Meanwhile, the Lion’s offense found their stride, again dominating possession and out-shooting the ‘Jacks. This half, fortunately, the Lion’s were able to find the back of the net, outscoring Diboll 6-0 to take an 8-3 victory.

Jasper (Game 14 record
8-6-0 district 4-4)
Livingston Lady Lions traveled to Jasper on February the 12th to take on the Lady Bulldogs. Jasper came out strong from the very beginning scoring a goal within the first ten minutes. This was the only goal scored by either team the entire first half. The Livingston offense was unable to penetrate the strong defensive front that was enforced by the sweeper. With the strong defense that was demonstrated Livingston midfielders including Hanna Rudebusch and Shawna Hoover spent most of the night trying to defend the impressive Jasper offense. The Lady Lion keeper, Ashlee Pittman, was able to make several amazing saves to keep the score at 0-3 in Jasper’s favor.
