100th Day in Timber Creek 2nd Grade
Submitted by Kim Munson and Kim Stanley, Timber Creek Elementary
Timber Creek Elementary - The 2nd graders in Mrs. Munson’s and Mrs. Stanley’s rooms had a fun day of learning on January 31st, the 100th day of school! The students counted to 100 by ones, twos, fives, and tens. They also learned that a 100 second jog and 100 jumping jacks are not as easy a task as one may think! The students estimated where 100 steps would take us in the building and while some were right on, most thought 100 steps would be much farther. The students really enjoyed writing about how they would spend $100 and the highlight of the day was drawing themselves as a 100 year old man or woman.

Studying the Shadows
Submitted by Bria Morris, Timber Creek Elementary

Timber Creek Elementary - Mrs. Morris’ class was learning about shadows this week. After doing many experiments with flashlights and the overhead we made silhouettes. Mrs. Morris and the student teacher Ms. Duke traced the children’s profiles and T.C.E. secretary Gay Jeffries and T.C.E. Assistant Principal Kyle Rice had to come and match the children with their profile. The children absolutely loved it and Mrs. Jeffries and Mr. Rice got a kick out of it also.

Taking it to the next level
Submitted by Mrs. Baker, Livingston Junior High

In Mrs. Baker’s 7th grade Science classes, students took the knowledge they have about the structure, function, and organization of cells and created an analogy of how the cell operates and is similar to something else with which they are familiar, such as a city. Once they brainstormed and came up with similarities between the two concepts, each group produced a poster, illustrating their ideas. Taking what they have learned to the next level … Mrs. Baker’s classes … 7th grade Science.

Great Behavior in the Classroom - February 1, 2008
Livingston High School
Ruth Salazar is a very talented musician, and even though LISD does not have an orchestra, she continues to show excellence in that area. She was first chair in the all region orchestra, and just this past weekend earned a superior rating on a Class 1 solo. This rating qualifies her for the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest held in Austin at UT in May. She is a great representative of LHS. - 10th grade, David Powell
Livingston High School
I want to recognize Brandon Prescott, Kimberley Shankles, Michael Hendrix, Cody Kirkpatrick, and Dolores Duran. These 11th graders are star students because they scored the highest score of a 4 on their written composition on the MOCK ELA test that was given on January 17th. I am very proud of these students. - English III eleventh grade, Brenda Black

Handling Specific Behaviors from www.disciplinehelp.com
The Failer
Behavior: Specific attitudes and actions of this child at home and/or at school.
- Gets so far behind that he/she can't seem to catch up. Every class day seems to dig this student deeper into the hole of failure.
- May fall into one of three distinct groups:
- Has ability, but fights authority, and resents and resists school standards. Remember, people don't fight friends as readily as they do enemies. Students are no exception. If a student doesn't have any adult friends, it's easy to see why teache
- Likely to have a record of misbehavior.
- May have moved from school to school or city to city.
- May have friends who are out of school.
- Associates with older children.
- Likely to miss school frequently.
- Not interested in extra-class activities, and seldom participates in student government, interest groups, music, or athletics.
- May come from an unstable home. Parents may have little interest in the student, and he/she may receive little or no encouragement.
