Heart Disease is "Risky Business"
Submitted by Barbara Waters, Timber Creek Elementary
Timber Creek Elementary - Students at TCE are learning about the risk factors for heart disease while playing a game of Risky Business in their physical education classes. Each time they are tagged by the "heart attackers" they get a risk factor card to carry with them everywhere. Those cards include: 1) pigging out (obesity, 2) smoking, 3) high cholesterol foods, 4) stress monster (high blood pressure) and 5) couch potato (inactivity). Eventually students have to go to the cardiologist doctor to get back in shape and healthy again. Students from Kindergarten to 3rd grade are learning why heart disease is the number 1 killer in America today. "We hope students learn some important life lessons from these games and make smart healthy choices that will impact their lifetime!"
