LJH One Act Play Wins!
Submitted by Marion LeBlanc, Livingston Junior High
The LJH play, "The Cover of Life", won first place at the UIL Junior High School One Act Play contest held Saturday, January 19, 2008, in Liberty, Texas, at the Liberty ISD Auditorium. The awards did not stop with the first place trophy. Elissa Clausen was named Best Actress of the contest. Brandy Baker and Royden Ogletree were awarded All-Star Cast medals. The hard-working technical crew, led by Stage Manager Cassie Matthews, were awarded medals for being the Best Crew at the contest. This award went to not only Cassie, but to the Set Crew Chief John Flores, Sound Technician Derek Fults, and Light Technician Lauren Sitton. The cast and crew did an excellent job all-around. The remainder of the cast who received first place medals are Anja Schoenenberger, Jenny Babcock, Natalie Sebaugh, and Anais Garcia. The understudies and stage crew are Justin Ellison, Mikayla White, and Emily Tullos.

The critic judge of the contest was Ms. Rachel Mattox, the high school Educator of the Year for Texas Educational Theatre Association who has also taken ten plays to the UIL High School One Act Play State Meet, winning three first place championships and placing two other shows. She remarked that the LJH actors' characterizations were "very well-realized, mature, and confident." She also said that the actors "got to the heart of the play, had good consistency on their accents, and that they were mature beyond their years." Concerning the crew, Ms. Maddox said that the make-up, costumes, and hair looked wonderful and the choice of music was excellent. She said the crew made the show better and run smoothly. She ended her critique by saying the cast and crew were an excellent ensemble and she thoroughly enjoyed their play.

The play will be presented one last time next Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the LHS Auditorium at 6:30 P.M. Admission is $3.00/adults and $2.00/senior citizens and students. Children under five admitted free of charge. Please come to the show and see what wonderful talent LJH students have!

Probability/Fractions/Cards
Submitted by Michelle Moore, Livingston Intermediate School
Students in Ms. Moore's 5th grade math class used cards to help them develope better understanding of probability and fractions. Students received a deck of cards and then turned twelve cards at a time face up. On a graphic organizer they recorded their data (trial number, total number of cards, number of face cards, fraction to describe the results in reduced form). It was wonderful to see the students actively engaged, helping one another, and using some great math vocabulary. Way to go Sea Horse students - I continue to be very proud of all of you.
