LHS UIL Students Compete in Willis

On Saturday, January 19, 24 Livingston High School students attended the Willis High School Invitational UIL Academic Meet. They competed against students from 18 schools ranging in size from 2A – 5A. Click Here for Complete Results!

FAFSA Made Easy Program

Livingston High School Counselors’ Office will host a FAFSA – Made – Easy Video Program on February 5, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. This program will provide the student and parent instructions for completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
During the video, financial aid experts will guide the viewer through the FAFSA. The FAFSA – Made – Easy Video Program is provided at no cost by TG as a part of its collegiate outreach initiative. TG is a nonprofit corporation created by the Texas Legislature to administer the Federal Family Education Loan Program. TG’s vision is to be the premier source of information, financing, and assistance to help all families and students realize their educational and career dreams.

FAFSA Assistance Given to Parents

On January 22, Mrs. Rebecca Daughtry from Angelina College Financial Aid Department came to LHS and helped several students and parents begin the FAFSA process. She has agreed to come back to LHS one evening from 7:00 p.m. till 9:00 pm. on March 25, 26 or 27 if enough parents are interested in attending. If you would like to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Daughtry, please contact Mrs. Gilbert at LHS by February 8 so we can reserve her services for one of the March evenings. Your child does not need to be planning to attend Angelina College for you to take advantage of this free service.



Pine Ridge Students Win at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest

Pine Ridge Elementary School is proud to congratulate our students who participated in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest on Saturday, January 19th.  Ribbons were awarded for first, second, and third places, with “Finalist Ribbons” awarded for the top two art pieces.  A special thank you to our teachers who helped these students prepare for the contest:  Martha Smith, Karen Butler, Karen Sanders, Hattie Criswell, and Paula Franklin.  Students winning ribbons were:

Chex® School Fuel
Cooking with the LISD family! - January 28, 2008

Ingredients

3/4 cup packed brown sugar
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
4 cups Corn Chex® cereal
4 cups Rice Chex® cereal
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions:
1. Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. In large microwavable bowl, microwave brown sugar, butter and corn syrup uncovered on High 1 to 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute, until melted and smooth. Stir in baking soda until dissolved. Stir in cereals.
2. Microwave on High 3 minutes, stirring each minute. Spread on cookie sheet to cool, about 10 minutes. Break into bite-size pieces.
3. In microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips uncovered on High about 1 minute 30 seconds or until chocolate can be stirred smooth (bowl will be hot). Drizzle chocolate over snack. Refrigerate about 30 minutes or until chocolate is set. Store in airtight container.

Stove-Top Directions: Cover cookie sheet with waxed paper. In Dutch oven, cook brown sugar, butter and corn syrup over low heat, stirring frequently, until melted. Stir in baking soda until dissolved. Stir in cereals. Cook over medium-high heat 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until cereal is evenly coated. Spread on cookie sheet to cool, about 10 minutes. Break into bite-size pieces. In 1-quart saucepan, melt chocolate chips over low heat, stirring frequently. Drizzle chocolate over snack. Refrigerate about 30 minutes or until chocolate is set. Store in airtight container.
