LJH Choir Takes Over
Submitted by Tom Myers, Performing Choir, Livingston Junior High School
Livingston High School - On Friday, January 25th the Livingston Jr. High Performing Choir traveled to Vidor Jr. High to participate in the Region X UIL Middle School/Jr. High Vocal Solo & Ensemble contest. The 43 young people who attended participated in 3 Medium ensembles, 2 Madrigals and 5 Small ensembles. All students were involved in multiple events and every student that participated came home with at least two 1st division medals. Some students received as many as 4, meaning they had to learn different music for each event. All told the 43 participating students in the Livingston Jr. High Choir brought back 126 1st division (or superior) ratings. These young people began working toward this competition in January after returning from Christmas break. They have made tremendous progress as they begin to prepare for UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest in April.
Outdoor Education - PFDs & Boating Safety
Submitted by Livingston Junior High Physical Education Department
Livingston Junior High - As part of their outdoor education program, the LJH girls P.E. classes learned about the different types of PFDs (personal flotation devices). Each student learned how to properly “fit” themselves for a lifejacket. They learned the basic parts of a boat: bow, stern, port, and starboard. After viewing “AquaSmart” (water and boating safety), each student was able to board a boat and balance and counter-balance self and others within the boat. On the following day, the girls were able to board a canoe and kayaks. Then, the girls were taught about personal water craft and were given the chance to board a PWC. With the large number of our local students spending time near the lake, it is important to learn the rules of staying safe on the water.
