LJH One Act Play Prepares for Contest
Submitted by Marion LeBlanc, Livingston Junior High School

The Livingston Junior High Encore Players are busy preparing for the upcoming One Act Play Contest to be held in Liberty on Saturday, January 19, 2008. They will be performing scenes from the play "The Cover of Life", set during World War II. The play tells the story of three brothers who enlisted in the three branches of the military on the same day and their wives, who move in with the boys' mama during the duration of the war. It is a comic drama. Rehearsals have been underway since November and the final rehearsals are being held on the high school stage to prepare these young actors for performance on a real stage.

When rehearsals first began back in November, the students were treated to a reading with an experienced actress who had won awards for portraying Aunt Ola in this very same play when she was in high school. This talented young lady the students were fortunate enough to read with is the daughter of our superintendent, Kali Jo Myers Laird. Our talented cast includes Brandy Baker as Sybil, Elissa Clausen as Tood, Anja Schoenenberger as Weetsie, Anais Garcia as Kate, Jenny Babcock as Aunt Ola, Natalie Sebaugh as Addie Mae, and Royden Ogletree as Tommy. Also included in the company is an outstanding crew. The crew is lead by stage manager Cassie Matthews, lighting technician Lauren Sitton, sound technician Derek Fults, set manager John Flores, costume manager/understudy Emily Tullos, set crew/understudy Justin Ellison, and set crew/understudy Mikayla White. The director of the play is Marion LeBlanc, assisted by Jeanne Baker.

The LHS drama teacher, Lisa Henderson, has been instrumental in offering help with props and showing the students all the aspects of the stage, lighting, and sound at the high school. The students invite everyone to come see them perform at contest on January 19 in Liberty. They are scheduled to perform at 4:00 P.M. They plan on having a performance for the public, but the date hasn't been set yet.

UIL Academics - We Dream Big!
Submitted by Deana Evans, Livingston High School

Livingston High School - Imagine making $13,000 for college scholarships in just one day!  That’s what the Livingston High School UIL coaches, community volunteers, administration and staff did last year on Feb. 10, 2007, by hosting our 16th annual UILions Invitational Academic Meet.  Thirty schools (2A to 5A) from all over the area competed in 20 different UIL events ranging from Spelling and Science to Prose and Poetry Interpretation in preparation for their district competitions.

This year’s 17th Annual UILions Invitational Meet is Saturday, February 9th at Livingston High School.  We look forward to this Meet being bigger and better than last year’s, but to accomplish that goal, we need YOUR HELP!  There is a job for everyone that is willing to help, from judging speaking events and grading papers, to helping in the hospitality room and concession stand, we will find a job for you.  Even if you can only come for a couple of hours during the day, any help will be appreciated.

If you are interested in assisting in any capacity, please contact Mrs. Deana Evans at devans@livingstonisd.com or (936) 328-2240.  Together we can accomplish great things!
