"The Spider and the Fly"
Submitted by Sue Ann McQueen, Pine Ridge Elementary
Great works of literature can be found to help students build connections between Drug Free Week, Halloween, and the study of spiders. Ms. McQueen's First Grade class spun a web of drug free messages after being introduced to "The Spider and the Fly."

Twisting and Turning Ghosts!
Submitted by Sue Ann McQueen, Pine Ridge Elementary
"Four little ghosts liked to go flying together. Every night they would end up at the old haunted house, where they would do acrobatic tricks from the balcony. Except for one little ghost who was determined to find something different." PRE students in Mrs. Smith's First Grade class were searching for that one little ghost that could "spin" instead of "float." They had to predict, graph, observe, classify, gather and interpret data, and most of all EXPERIMENT.

Ghost Hunting at TCE
Submitted by Barbara Waters, Timber Creek Elementary
The Timber Creek gym turned into a Ghost Town for two days this week. Students were finding ghost everywhere! It took a while to find over a 120+ ghosts; they were hiding in tires, under cones, buckets, behind walls and inside boxes. First graders were persistent with their flashlights and “Ghostbuster-mobiles”!
