Skate Time at Timber Creek
Submitted by Barbara Waters, Timber Creek Elementary School
Second & Third grade students completed another year of safe skating at TCE. Second grade students skated for the very first time this year on Quad (roller) skates. Third grade skated on in-line skates. The students did a great job and had so much fun! They were excited to be a part of the Skatetime “Skate4Life” Program.
There was a lot of improvement made in those two weeks of skating. Students were sad to see the skates leave, but feel confident in their skating ability to try them again if given the chance. Most teachers waited till the last day to come in and skate with their kids…wonder WHY?? Mrs. Vinson was even caught reliving her childhood memories of roller derby ‘Queen’.

How do they design Cereal Boxes?
Submitted by Laura Ouedraogo, Livingston High School
Calculus students are investigating about how cereal boxes are designed. We are seeing whether our favorite cereal's volume is really the biggest possible given the amount of cardboard used to create the box. We are using derivatives and creating equations to investigate our study and to see what dimensions would be most economical. Way to go Calculus Students!

LISD Star Students
Great Behavior in the Classroom - November 28, 2007
Timber Creek Elementary
Allison Dry is always willing to help others. Her kindness and sweet smile brighten our classroom!
3rd grade math
Deena Galloway
Livingston Junior High
Darren Stanford & Anja Schoenenberger went above and beyond the "call of duty" this past weekend. In preparing for this week's performance of Teacher, I Hear You, the cast and crew had lessons in building set pieces. The set was not completed and we needed volunteers to give up their Saturday afternoon to finish building and painting the set pieces. Anja and Darren were the only students who sacrificed their Saturday afternoon for over five hours for their play. They are true examples of the old saying, "The show must go on!" Bravo to these students for their hard work and dedication to this production!

"You Can Handle Them All"
Handling Specific Behaviors from www.disciplinehelp.com
|
The Agitator
Behavior: Specific attitudes and actions of this child at home and/or at school.
- Tries to cause trouble-and appears delighted with it.
- Gets others to do or say what he/she would not do or say.
- Uproots old controversies, cries "unjust," incites hostilities, and causes as much trouble as he/she can.
- Tries to appear to be an innocent bystander in any trouble he/she causes.
- May act upset, stir others to rebelliousness, then walk away from the group when the disturbance is about to take place.
- Usually gets other students in trouble more often than he/she gets in trouble. More often than not, does not get openly and publicly involved-but operates from the sidelines.
- At home, hits, pushes, and trips siblings when out of sight of parents-then says the brother or sister "started it" if problems result.
- Starts rumors to create turmoil.
- Plays other people against one another, including teacher against teacher, parent against parent, students against classmates.
- Often provokes physical confrontations between other people.
- Consistently immature and irresponsible.
- Tattletale.
- Seeks the attention of others.
- Appears to operate without loyalties, even to those regarded as friends.
