Students Vote for Hydroelectric Power
Submitted by Doreen Quibodeaux, November 10, 2008
LJH - After studying Energy resources in the U.S., sixth graders in Mrs. Quibodeaux’s Science class voted for an alternative energy source they would like to see used in Livingston. The winning alternative energy source (44 votes) was Solar Energy. Students would like to see solar panels for electricity (photovoltaic cells) and thermal energy panels sold at hardware stores for home owners to purchase. Close behind with 30 votes was Hydroelectric power. According to a recent article in the Polk County Enterprise, plans are already in the works to build a hydroelectric power plant on Lake Livingston Dam and Trinity River. Using alternative, renewable energy sources helps keep the planet GREEN and keeps more “green” in your wallet! Science Rocks!
