Royal Brigade Band Travels to Contest
Submitted by David Powell, LHS Royal Brigade, November 4, 2008

LJH - On Saturday, November 8th, the LHS Royal Brigade will journey to Little Cypress-Mauriceville HS to compete in the Region 10 UIL Marching Contest.  This event was originally scheduled for October 18th, but Hurricane Ike had other ideas and it had to be rescheduled.  Bands from all classifications in Region 10 will be competing, except for the 3A and 5A schools.  Those schools had to perform and be rated before the Area competition on October 25,  so a preliminary contest was held for those schools.  The Royal Brigade is not as big or powerful as it once was, but while it is rebuilding, it is still producing quality performances.  The Brigade will march officially at 4:00pm in Bear Stadium, and will do their best to represent LHS and LISD in a positive manner.

Submitted by Alvene Galloway, Livingston Junior High, November 4, 2008

LISD - On Tuesday evening, October 29, there was a Parent Orientation meeting for parents of students in the Dyslexia Program (grades 1-5) held in the Intermediate School cafeteria.  Ruth Dominy, Dyslexia teacher at Pine Ridge/Timber Creek, introduced the teachers and administrators who were present.  After a presentation about the Dyslexia Program and the allowable accommodations on the TAKS test, a discussion was led by Janice Farrar on how the dyslexic brain processes language.  The discussion focused on how the Scottish Rite Program addresses learning differences of students with dyslexic tendencies through multi-sensory instruction.  After enjoying pizza, the students demonstrated techniques/strategies used daily in class.
