Teachers Look to Further Education
A Joint Project of LISD Human Resources and the LISD Curriculum Department
On October 23, 2007 Livingston ISD hosted members of the Sam Houston State University College of Education for a Graduate School Showcase. This was a wonderful opportunity for those LISD staff members that have been considering furthering their education by attending graduate school. The Showcase was held in the LISD Board Room and highlight the many aspects of the programs offered and offered the opportunity for participants to ask questions about their interests.
In all, fifteen members of the Livingston ISD staff came through to learn about Masters programs. Nikki Wilson, HR Director for Livingston ISD says that many more events such as this one will be held in the future. "Our long term goal, " says Wilson, "is that we have enough of our local educators working on further educational opportunities, that the universities will come to Livingston to teach these courses."
This event which was a joint venture of the LISD Human Resources Department and the LISD Curriculum Department as they work to expand Professional Development and Career Advancement opportunities for our Livingston ISD Employees.

GT Students Explore Space
Submitted by Paula Franklin, Livingston Intermediate School
The fourth grade GT students in have been exploring the universe! Students created models of spaceships & moon rovers, painted murals of our planets, and made games that taught facts about our solar system. Others studied star maps and made up a constellation based on what they thought the star grouping looked like and then wrote a story telling how their constellation got its name. Students pretended they were astronauts on a four-day space mission and they shared their journals with the class while others chose a planet to win "Solar System Member of the Year Contest" by acting out a commercial for their planet. The students enjoyed learning about our universe in rather unique and different ways!

Submitted by Destiny Kennedy, Pine Ridge Elementary
Music students at Pine Ridge have been focusing the past few weeks on learning the musical alphabet, steady beat, tuned instruments and new rhythms. They have been putting it altogether while singing, playing keyboards, xylophones, glocks, and boomwhackers. The kids love the hands on experience and the chance to create their own compositions.
