The Power of Forces

Mrs. Criswell's 3rd grade science classes have been studying forces. On Thursday, they performed several experiments with forces: Can You Rock and Roll, Science au Gratin, and Dapper Dollar to determine how forces effect various objects.


Exploring Shapes and Patterns

Students in Mrs. Fuller's First Grade class explored the attributes of shapes and how shapes fit together.  Students had fun creating patterns, designs, and pictures.

Emerald Belles win at Forest Festival

On September 19, the LHS Emerald Belles competed in the KYKS 105/KFOX 95 Texas State Forest Festival Dance/Pom Competition held at the Angelina County Exposition Center in Lufkin. They place 3rd in the Hip Hop division and 1st in the Kick division. Way to go, Belles!

Cross Country Results

The Lady Lions competed well in the Livingston Invitational Cross Country Meet held at Pedigo Park Thursday, October 4th.  Placing in the top 20 of 81 competitors were Kamri West 7th, Kami Wilson 13th, and Hannah Rudebusch 19th.  Helping the Lady Lions place 4th overall for Varsity were Diana Dominguez and Heather Wiggins.  LePetra Collins, Rebecca Larsen, Joe Guillen, Garrett Swilley, and Jared Hoover all represented the Livingston Lions well in good competition and sportsmanship. 

The Jr. High Lady Cubs placed 2nd overall in team competition.  Placing in the top 20 of 76 runners were Jancey Acosta 1st, Tatyana Yufereva 6th, Julie Ramirez 9th, and Kristi Autrand 12th. Running in the top of the pack for the Jr. High Boys were Jaime Aguilar 19th, and Madison Moore 22nd.

The Livingston Lions Cross Country Teams will compete in the Conroe Invitational Meet Friday, October 12th and Jr. High at the Lufin Meet Saturday, October 13th.

The Green team played 3 long matches Saturday.  A majority of the games were played down to the wire.  The girls came back after a loss and won their second match to play for consolation.  After two close games during their last match, Huffman ended up prevailing.  The lady lions played well together and are looking forward to their next game.

WHITE TEAM
The tournament was a great experience for the girls. Played Peet Jr. High the first game, scored 23 and just lost the concept, Peet gained momentum and won in three.  Attempting to play for consolation in the losers bracket , we played Tarkington Gold.  They won, we won.  Starting the third game all fired up and eager to win but victory became our enemy and lost 16 to 14 in their favor.

The Lady Lions played great and brought a victory out of the first match against Hardin.  The second match against Tarkington was a little upsetting for the Lions, but they played hard and stayed motivated throughout the entire match.  The last match against Moorhead was a good ending to the tournament.  We really stepped up and played our game.  The top servers for the tournament were Ashley Ingle, Abby Miksch and McKenzie Criddle.  The top hustlers were Emily Moore and Randee Crawford.

Top servers for the tournament were Caitlyn Warren, Lauren Sitton, Sommer Fleetwood and Alila Flores.  The top passers wer Mary Reitan, Calli Blankenship and Destanie Mathews.  The top hustlers were Kristina Abdallah, Kristina Newman and Brook Crow.

*The green and white teams play Waller at home, Thursday, October 11th.

Strawberries and Cream Cake
Cooking with the LISD family! - October 9, 2007

Ingredients
1 box Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® white cake mix
1 1/4 cups water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs (including yolks)
1 box (4-serving size) strawberry-flavored gelatin

Whipped Cream Frosting
2 oz cream cheese, softened
2 teaspoons milk
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar

Directions
1. Heat oven to 350ºF (325ºF for dark or nonstick pan). Grease bottom only of 13x9-inch pan with shortening or cooking spray; lightly flour. In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil, eggs and gelatin with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes. Pour into pan.
2. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean. Run knife around sides of pan to loosen cake. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
3. In chilled large bowl, beat cream cheese and milk with electric mixer on low speed until smooth. Beat in whipping cream and powdered sugar on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, until soft peaks form. Spread frosting over cake. Store covered in refrigerator.
