LISD - Student Handbook Addendum
Submitted by Diana Kelm, Livingston ISD Deputy Superintendent, October 10, 2008

Livingston - The following statements were inadvertently omitted from the LISD PK-5th and 6th -12th Grade Student Handbooks for the 2008-2009 school year:

Doctor’s Note After An absence for Illness:
When a student’s absence for personal illness is three (3) or more consecutive days, the student shall present a statement from a physician or health clinic verifying the illness or other condition in order for the student to receive an excused absence.

Attendance Notification Letters:
Letters regarding attendance are sent to parents/guardians when their child reaches three, five, and eight absences. These letters are sent regardless whether the absence is excused or unexcused.

Beginning with absence eight (8), all requests for an excused absence must be accompanied by a signed letter, note, or form from a doctor, dentist, or other licensed medical practitioner within three (3) days of the student’s return to school. The absence will be considered unexcused without the documentation.

The following statements were inadvertently omitted from the LISD PK-5th Grade Student Handbook for the 2008-2009 school year:

Perfect Attendance Awards:
Perfect Attendance awards will be based on the student attending the full school day. In order to receive a perfect attendance award, a student may not have more than five (5) unexcused tardies or early checkouts. All doctor’s notes are excused.

Tardies or Early Checkouts:
If a student has eight (8) late tardies or early checkouts, he/she will be assigned to Saturday school. A late tardy is an arrival time after 8:15 am. A doctor’s note is excused and the student will not be required to make up that time.

Fire Safety Week Ends in a Blaze!
Submitted by Barbara Waters, Timber Creek Elementary, October 14, 2008
Timber Creek Elementary – Students ended their week of Fire Safety emphasis during PE class with a “Fireman’s Obstacle Course”.  This course had students crawling under smoke, jumping out windows, racing to a fire with their water hoses, rescuing trapped infants in a burning building, climbing ladders and calling “911” to give important information to the police.  At 10:10 a.m. Friday, the whole campus was tested with an actual fire drill.  They showed a commendable performance in being prepared.  Who knows how many will seek an actual career in fire fighting?
