Emerald Belles Excel at Summer Camp
Submitted by Jami Alexander, Livingston High School

The 2007-2008 Emerald Belles drill team attended a private camp given by American Dance/Drill Teams this past summer.  During this 4-day intensive camp, they learned 6 dance routines....4 for  halftime field performances and 2 for the pep rally performances.  As well as learning these routines, they had dance & kick technique workshops and motivational sessions.  The Line and Social officers also attended workshop sessions in leadership and motivation.  On the last day of camp, they performed all 6 dances for parents and guests.  At this time, awards were given in several different categories.  Kassie Maxwell was named the Performer of the Week for her 110% effort all week long.  Delinda Williams and Destini Williams were both given the award for Miss Pizzazz for their awesome attitudes, smiles and spirit.  Captain Amanda Gilbert was awarded the Spirit of ADTS for her dance ability and tremendous leadership of the Belles.

The Gussie Nell Davis Dancer of the Week was awarded to Mandy Drager, Tori McLendon & Kim Miles.   One of the awards given was for Miss High Kick.  In order to be given that award, you must first go through the try-out process.  About 10 Belles learned a series of kicks to music and through a process in which they were judged on proper kick technique, the Kick Company was selected.  Those Belles selected were Kassie Maxwell, Amanda Gilbert, Leslie Campbell and Tasha Runnels.  From these four, Tasha Runnels was chosen as Miss High Kick.   Instructors for the camp were Heather Wiggins and Angela Falcone.  Heather is a former Kilgore Rangerette and is currently on the Dance/Pom Squad at Baylor University.  Angela is a graduate of Friendswood High School and is currently a Kilgore Rangerette.  All of the Belles did a great job and have been working very hard to bring you a great halftime show this football season.

Sports Score - Football  - September 6, 7, 2007
Freshman: The Freshman white team kicked off their year with a gritty performance against an older Crockett squad this past Thursday at Lion Stadium. The defense surrendered a late first half touchdown but otherwise punished a lackluster attack by the visiting Bulldogs. The final was 6-0 against the Lions. The Green team seemed to be on all cylinders as they pushed the visiting C.E. King Panthers at will. The offensive line opened some massive holes all night. Running backs Kevin Kuykendahl, Kevin McDaniel, and Earnest White all found the end zone. The Green Lions proved to be an entertaining spectacle with a final of 28-6 over the Panthers.

Junior Varsity: The JV Lions traveled to C.E. King on Thursday and bravely fought the Panthers. Dominic Rushing found the end zone for the lone Lion score. The final put the Panthers over the Lions 28-6. The JV will be ready for the New Caney Eagles this week.

Varsity: The Livingston Lions had better long distance connections on Friday night than AT&T. Kicker Drew Nelson connected on a 49 yard field goal, RB Stacey Randolph scored on a 55 yard romp, and QB Dustin Harris scored on some razzle dazzle by catching a 37 yard pass for a crowd pleasing touchdown. The offense improved from last week and produced a 100 yard back in Randolph, who had 18 carries for 120 yards. Isaac Crawford once again paced a stingy Lion defense with 13 solo tackles. The Lion "D" improved on the team turnover margin by recovering several fumbles. So far this year the Lions are plus 9 in the turnover margin. The 2-0 Lions are set to battle the Eagles of New Caney in "The Jungle" Friday night for homecoming.
