Submitted by Frances Harrell, Timber Creek Elementary
Mrs. Harrell's 3rd grade class at TCE has not had one person tardy or absent since the first day of school. We are now trying to make a full six weeks with perfect attendance. A pizza party is on the line so we're reminding each other every day to be at school.

Terrie Langston Joins the Apple Corps
Story Submitted by Gregg Faith, LISD Public Information Officer
In the words of the September 2007 Apple Corps Inductee, “First grade is where it all happens”. From the introduction to basic concepts to the ultra-important world of reading, in the first grade classroom students step out of the pre-game warm-up of Pre-K and Kindergarten and head straight into the ballgame.
Teaching first grade is a formidable task because it is where you must first introduce students to the learning methods and ideas that will guide and direct them through the next 12 years. Like it or not, the first grade teacher is vital in setting students on a path that can either make them love learning, or fight it every step of the way. For the past fourteen years, Terrie Langston, of Pine Ridge Elementary has created students who love learning in her first grade classroom and her success and enthusiasm has landed her amongst Livingston ISD’s finest. Pine Ridge Supports the Lions!
Submitted by Destiny Kennedy, Pine Ridge Elementary
Students at Pine Ridge love showing their school spirit each week by dressing as cheerleaders and football players. They also wear their school spirit shirts and game ribbons. On Homecoming the kids were especially proud to support the Lions by wearing mums and arm garters. Some classes made paper mums to wear. At Pine Ridge we love our team and look forward to being a Varsity Lion one day.

GT Students Go on Historic Search
Story by Jim Ziegler, Livingston High School
A little part of Marion County history has been found in an unlikely place: a small town called Livingston, deep in the heart of Texas. Livingston High School students came across an old, worn family Bible that was overflowing with historic newspaper clippings, obituaries, and other bits of daily life from over one hundred years ago.

The earliest clipping contained in the Bible dates back to February 1901, and it is possible that the many small, handwritten notes written in the book date back even further. Among the events clipped and placed between the pages of the Bible are a performance program from a traveling violinist named Joseph Heine, a local property auction involving a tract of land near Prather’s Creek and a particularly interesting article about the disappearance of the buffalos. The purpose of the presentation was to search for retired teachers to help Livingston High School tutor students for the Spring Exit exams. Dr. Myers also gave the group information about the local district and some of the new programs we are working to provide for students.
