SeaHorses /Prime and Composite Card Activity
Submitted by Michelle Casas, Livingston Intermediate School
Students in Mrs. Moore's 5th grade Math team used regular playing cards to help connect their multiplication skills and better understand prime and composite numbers. Students choose two cards from a deck of cards (ace (1) - 10 only). Multiply the two cards to find a product. Determine if that product is prime or composite. The person with the most prime numbers wins.

7th Grade Science "Takes Aim" for Graphing Lab
Submitted by Beth Baker, Livingston Junior High School
Mrs. Beth Baker's 7th grade science classes have been studying graphing. On Wednesday, Sept. 19th they participated in an outdoor lab in the courtyard at the Junior High School. There were 4 separate stations in which they tried hitting different targets at different distances. They used an AIR ZOOKA and tried to knock over cups; they used large syringes to squirt water at ping pong balls that were set on golf tees for "water golf"; they launched marshmellows using a spoon into a trash can, and they practiced their putting skills with real putters and golf balls. The student really enjoyed the fun and later showed success as they graphed their results.

Local News Station Interviews "Bachelor" Teachers
Submitted by Marci Dickens, Livingston High School
A reporter from KTRE (Lufkin ABC) recently visited and interviewed Ruth Hollenbeck and Kathleen McKenzie in preparation for the September 24, 2007 premier of the Bachelor on ABC television. This year's bachelor is none other that LHS graduate Brad Picklesimer. "Brad was a favorite student of mine and he graduated from LHS in 1991, " saus Kathleen Mckenzie. "He has a twin brother (Chad) and a younger brother Wesley. I taught Brad and Chad but not Wesley. I have heard through the years what they were doing and the fact that they have 4 successful bars in Austin. I am very proud of all three. It is going to be very interesting to see a former student on the Bachelor show."

LHS Student Participates in Challenger Football
Story from the Houston Chronicle, By TOM BEHRENS, Chronicle Correspondent
 |
Challenger Football kicked off its season two Saturday mornings ago at Strake Jesuit Preparatory High School. Crusader football players and cheerleaders did not play; they assisted other youth who could not play or cheer.
The concept of Challenger sports is not new. Able-bodied individuals, called "Buddies," volunteer to help youth that are mentally or physically challenged to participate in sports. Challenger Baseball has been around in Houston for three years. Challenger Football's first game was last year at Rice University.
Luke McLendon of Livingston High School participates in the program and had a very successful day at the season opener. Proud parent and LISD employee Cindy McLendon sent us some photos from the game and an article originally published in the Houston Chronicle.
