What Extent Will Teachers Go To Get Their Students To Write?
Submitted by Janie Snyder, Pine Ridge Elementary
Several weeks ago Mrs. Snyder mysteriously showed up to school with a broken foot. She had no explanation and insisted that her students write their own versions of “How Mrs. Snyder Broke Her Foot.” Ideas ranged from a girls night out bowling to doing tricks on a 4-wheeler!

Paleontologists in 2nd Grade
Submitted by Mrs. Scoggin, Timber Creek Elementary
TCE - Mrs. Scoggin's 2nd graders practiced being paleontologist by putting together bones of a dinosaur to discover what it looked like long ago on Wednesday, September 26. They also made dinosaur food out of dirt, crushed bones, dried grass, and swamp water. All the students enjoyed eating their dinosaur food.

LJH Journalists Voice Opinions

Livingston Junior High - Livingston Junior High students are writng letters to both the editor and Dr. Meyers voicing their concerns about the future of the community and LISD. Students wrote about a variety of topics including school overcrowding, and the need for a town skate park
Journalism teacher, Mrs. Meade said, "Students need to understand that thier voices can create change when concerns are paired with viable solutions. It is a lesson on how to address concerns legitimatly, instead of throwing out random comments and complaints. " |

4th Graders Learn With Jimmy Buffett

4th graders recently read "Jolly Mon", a book written by Jimmy Buffett and his daughter. Then, each student took a section of the book, rewrote it, illustrated it, and put it all back together to create a class copy. At the end of the week, everyone dressed up to celebrate!

Roundee Helps 5th Graders Round

Mrs. Gresham's 5th grade students help remember how to round with a character called Roundee. She has 1 winking eye (the place we're rounding to) and 1 open eye (What we look at to determine how to round) We look deep into her eye, sing her song, and round our numbers. |

The Daily is hosting our Second Annual Cutest Costumed Kiddie Contest. Here are the rules for this year's competiion:
1) All entries must be ages 0-10.
2) All pictures must be taken last year or this year.
3) All entries must be related to an LISD employee.
Send entries by e-mail or school mail from September 20, 2007 - October 15, 2007.
Voting will take place on October 25, 2007.
Winners will be announced on October 31, 2007.
First Prize - A pumpkin full of candy
All contestants will receive a goody bag this year! :)

Cross Country Meet Workers Needed
Submitted by Pennee Hall, LISD Assistant Athletic Director
On Thursday, October 4 the Livingston Athletic Department will be hosting a Cross Country Meet at Pedigo Park. The first race starts at 4:00 and the last race starts at 6:00. We need help running the event off. Please let me know if you can volunteer some time to help make this event a success. There are at least 16 teams (all levels) participating from HS to Elementary. It is a big meet.
Workers would need to be at Pedigo Park at 3:30. Working is mainly monitoring an area.
