LHS to Retire Mark Moseley's Number
Submitted by Gregg Faith, Livingston ISD Communications, September 30, 2008
|
Livingston - During the pre-game ceremonies at the October 4, 2008 Lions Football game, the Livingston High School Athletics program will retire the number of place-kicker and former Livingston Lion #11 Mark Moseley.
Mark Moseley played for the Livingston Lions from 1962-1966 and went on to have a brilliant football career. In 1982, he was voted the National Football League’s Most Valuable Player – the first time in the NFL’s 75-year history that a kicker has ever been nominated or elected to such a prestigious position. The holder of numerous NFL kicking records, he has recently become eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame.
Mark began his football career in 1970, when he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played for the Eagles for one year before returning to his home state of Texas, where he played for the Houston Oilers for nearly two years. |
Mark Moseley came to the Washington Redskins in 1974, where he became an All-Pro and was so honored four times. In 1983, he set a single season scoring record of 161 points. He led the NFL in scoring four separate seasons, which placed him sixth on the all-time scoring list at that time. Mark also kicked 300 field goals in his career, placing him fifth on the NFL’s ALL-TIME scoring list.
After leaving Washington in 1985, Mark Moseley finished his career in Cleveland, where he helped the Cleveland Browns win the AFC Central Division Title. Mark retired from professional football in 1987 and became a full-time businessman. After gaining a great deal of experience in commercial real estate, he used his marketing and selling skills to launch his own business enterprises – Mark Moseley’s Travel, Mark Moseley’s Famous Fries and Extra Point Productions. He also holds summer kicking camps for young people.
Mark strongly believes in helping people, as evidenced by his many civic awards, including the International Association of Lions Club Humanitarian Award, Sales and Marketing Executive of Washington Award, the Marine Corps Scholarship Association Sportsman of the Year Award, and in 1982 he was named Washingtonian of the Year.
Additionally, Mark Moseley has been associated with MADD and SADD, Boy Scouts of America, Cerebral Palsy, United Way, the American Heart Association, and many other organizations that help people. He has devoted a great deal of time and energy towards fund-raising activities for the Washington D.C. Ronald McDonald House, a home away from home for seriously ill children. Mark Moseley was also named a Livingston High School Oustanding Graduate.

LHS offers PSAT/NMSQT to Juniors and Sophomores
Submitted by LHS Counselors, Livingston High School, September 30, 2008
Livingston - LHS will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) to their Juniors and Sophomores on Wednesday, October 15. Students who are college-bound are encouraged to take this test. The Juniors take the test free while the sophomores will need to pay $13.00. Checks or money orders will need to be made out to LHS. This particular test does several things: it enables the students to get the "feel" of the actual SAT college entrance exam, students can earn scholarships and academic recognition, it gives feedback and tools students can use to improve their skills for the actual SAT tests, it helps students begin the college search process.
The high school is coordinating with The Continuum Learning Center to take a practice PSAT test and recieve suggestions on how to improve their scores. Ms. Jackson will cover the highlights of "Things to Know" before you take the test.
When the actual PSAT/NMSQT scores come back the counselors will schedule a time to share information with both parents and students.
For further information, please contact Karri McKissick (PSAT coordinator)at the LHS Counselors' office.

All-Region Choir Audition Postponed
Submitted by Tom Myers, LHS Chorale, September 23, 2008
Hurricane Ike is still copying his big sister, Rita. Just as in 2005, when Rita caused multiple school activities to be cancelled or postponed, Ike has caused the Region X High School All-Region Choir audition scheduled for September 27th at Nederland HS to be cancelled and re-scheduled for October 11. Because of the huge power/water/facility problems that many of our districts are dealing with, the location for this audition has not been decided at this time. For updated information, check the District Calendar at www.livingstonisd.com. or call the HS choir room after 2pm at (936)328-2261.
