The Livingston High School Band, the Royal Brigade, is the premier
musical ensemble of the Livingston Independent School District. Comprised of students grade nine through
twelve, this group of students begins working in August to create the sound
that is the Royal Brigade. This work
does not end until the last days of the school year, filling the term with
music from beginning to end. This site
is a sample of what we are and what we do.
It will give you an idea of what the Livingston Royal Brigade is
about, and keep you updated on our activities. Pictures and graphics may take
a while to load, depending on your browser and computer speed. If you can’t
find what you need here, feel free to contact any of the directors, or just
call the LHS Band office at 936-328-2259. |
Why the Fine Arts Are Important
The arts make a contribution to education that reaches beyond
their intrinsic value as direct forms of thinking. Because each arts discipline
appeals to different senses and expresses itself through different media, each
adds a special richness to the learning environment. As students imagine,
create, and reflect, they are developing both verbal and nonverbal abilities
necessary to school progress. At the same time, they are developing
problem-solving abilities and higher-order thinking skills. Research points
toward a consistent and positive correlation between a substantive education in
the arts and student achievement in other subjects and on standardized tests. A
comprehensive, articulated arts education program also engages students in a
process that helps them develop the self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation
necessary for self-esteem and success for life.
