Livingston ISD Welcomes Alternative Certification Program (ACP) Applicants
Livingston ISD seeks “highly qualified” applicants as defined by NCLB, whether through traditional means or alternative certification. In order to be employed in our district, alternative certification candidates must have taken and passed the content area of the state exam. Taking the correct content exam is very important to an applicant in securing employment.

Certification Level Content Test Options
EC-4
Must pass the EC-4 Generalist. Able to teach any subject from Pre-K through 4th Grade.
4-8

At this level, there are options from which to choose. If the Generalist 4-8 is passed, any subject may be taught in grades 4-8. If the applicant takes a specific subject test (such as Math 4-8), them he/she is limited to that subject only. In many schools with this level of students, teachers are required to teach more than one subject. By testing in single content areas, the applicant is limited.

8-12
Must pass the content area test for the subject to be taught.
Special Education
In addition to passing the Special Education content test, the applicant must pass the content test in the subject they will teach. At both EC-4 and 4-8, passing the Generalist test at that level will allow the applicant to teach any subject area in special education. At the 8-12 level, the applicant must also pass the content test for their assigned subject.
