Instructions from Dr. Paul Drake, Livingston High School Principal

At this time, we are planning for your graduation ceremony to occur on Saturday, May 30, at 9:00 a.m. at the Lion Football Stadium. We are excited to have the opportunity to recognize and celebrate your accomplishments by holding a traditional in-person ceremony. In light of COVID-19, we will be making adjustments to meet all TEA guidelines and requirements given by the Governor, CDC, Polk County, and the City of Livingston. Below you will find information regarding guidelines and procedures to make this once in a lifetime event both memorable and safe. We will continue to monitor state and local guidance and make necessary adjustments as needed to guarantee compliance and communicate those to quickly.

- In the event the ceremony cannot be held as planned, a contingency plan will be communicated out to families via School Messenger (parent notification system), district website, student email, and social media sites.

- A live broadcast of the graduation ceremony can be accessed on the Livingston ISD website, www.livingstonisd.com

- There will be no graduation practice. We will have additional staff to assist with the ceremony and ask that you follow the direction of staff before, during, and after the ceremony. You will receive more information regarding procedures for the graduation ceremony the week of graduation.

- Graduates will be allowed to bring up to FIVE guests in a family group that will be seated together, at the same time. Infants and children will count as a guest. Guests will need to accompany you when you enter the stadium. It is the personal responsibility of each individual to determine if they wear their own personal mask or gloves. All attendees must use social distancing outside and inside the stadium.

- The gates will open at 8:00 a.m. You will need to enter through the gate you are assigned (you will receive more information regarding your assigned gate the week of graduation). You and your guests will be asked to stay in your vehicles until 7:45 a.m. You will need to arrive at the stadium no later than 8:45 a.m. You will not be allowed to leave the stadium once you enter.

- Balloons, noisemakers, and signs that would obstruct the view of others or distract from the ceremony will not be allowed in the stadium.

- You will need to enter the stadium in your cap and gown unzipped and will not be allowed to carry any personal items with you. Alterations or designs to your cap or gown will not be allowed.
Ladies: Wear a dress and dress shoes that are appropriate for the graduation ceremony. Dresses should be an appropriate length. Spiked heels will make it difficult to walk in the grass on the field.
Men: Wear a solid color shirt, slacks (No blue jeans), necktie, and dress shoes. Facial hair should be neatly groomed.

- When you enter the stadium, there will be a thermal scanner to test your group’s temperature. If a member of the group appears to have a temperature over 100 degrees, they will move to the nurses’ station for a more accurate temperature reading.

- You and your guests will be required to fill out a health screening survey which will be sent to your school email prior to the ceremony for any of the following signs or symptoms of possible COVID-19:

- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chills
- Repeated shaking with chills
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Loss of taste or smell
- Diarrhea
- Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
- Known close contact with a person who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 if exposure to the active confirmed case occurred within the last 14 days

ANYONE WITH THE ABOVE SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED IN THE STADIUM.

- Your guests will be required to sit as a group. Guest seating will be clearly marked in the bleachers, and there will be at least 6 feet between each group. Seating for guests will be random, and you will be ushered by LISD staff to a seat in an orderly and staged manner. Guests will not be allowed to stand at the rails and on the stairs during the ceremony. Hand sanitizer stations will be at every entrance and restrooms will be monitored to allow only a given number of people at a time. Our custodians will be wiping down rails, doors, and restrooms continually throughout the morning.

- We will not be able to provide hard copies of the program. Instead, the program can be viewed on the district website.

- Once you enter the stadium, you will check-in and be seated immediately on the field. You will not be staged in the field house, and there will be no procession. Seating on the field will be 6 ft apart. You will need to sit in your assigned seat (you will receive more information regarding your assigned row/seat the week of graduation) and maintain social distancing throughout the evening.

- You will be presented with a diploma cover when you cross the stage. Pictures will be taken during the ceremony and will be made available online at no charge. The district will provide an 8x10 photo of the graduate on stage sent to the most current mailing address on file. Therefore, do not go to the rail to take pictures or you may be asked to leave.
Under your seat will be a packet with your transcript, transcript request instructions, and your diploma. Also, students will have an extra hat under their seats for the hat toss. Students will toss the extra hat and then remain in their seats in order for us not to congregate and continue to practice social distancing.

- At the conclusion of the ceremony, guests in the bleachers will be dismissed first by an usher in an orderly fashion to their vehicles. Once done, graduates will recess at a safe distance through the six exit gates to their vehicles. Congregation after the ceremony is prohibited.

- You are expected to conduct yourselves appropriately to make the ceremony a formal and rewarding time for all the graduates and their family and friends. The Livingston High School Code of Conduct will be followed during the ceremony. Students who fail to meet the expectations for the graduation ceremony may be denied participation.

Congratulations on your achievement as a Livingston Lion and the accomplishment of earning your high school diploma. This is not the ending, but it is a great milestone in your education career. I know that you have a great future in store and you will do great things! On behalf of the entire high school staff: You will be missed and best wishes!
