Month of the Military Child
April is the Month of the Military Child (MOMC), a special time set aside each year to honor the resilience, courage, and daily sacrifices of military-connected children. This year, April 10th, 2026, has been designated by TEA and the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) as Purple Up! for Military Kids Day. On this day, we encourage schools, communities, and partners across Texas to wear purple as a visible symbol of support and appreciation for military-connected youth and the significant role they play in their families’ service.
Why purple? Purple represents the combination of colors associated with all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces:
- Air Force – Blue
- Army – Green
- Navy – Blue
- Marine Corps – Red
- Coast Guard – Blue
When these colors come together, they form purple – a unified show of support for all military families.
